CEI manages the Collins Marsh Nature Center with a naturalist living on the premises. It is open for public visitation by appointment, and has become a popular site for exploring the 1500 acre marsh. School groups from elementary to college level use the area to study the ecology of marshlands.
Canoes are available at the nature center, so it is possible to travel deep into the marsh waters to examine the wide variety of wildlife. Since the marsh was developed, new animal and bird species have come to inhabit the area, including sandhill cranes, osprey, yellow-headed blackbirds, and bald eagles.
